CMG to air documentary series on Heluo, tracing Chinese civilization origins 2023/11/17 source: International Daily Print

A documentary series entitled "In Search of Ancient China: Heluo" will be aired by China's state broadcaster starting on Monday, which will explore the representativeness and influence of the Heluo area in the golden stage of the origin of Chinese civilization around 5,300 years ago.

Jointly produced by the state broadcaster, the China Media Group (CMG), and China's National Cultural Heritage Administration, the five-episode documentary focuses on the Heluo area, where the Yellow River (known as He in ancient China) and the Luohe River meet. This region, often referred to as the "center of heaven and earth" by ancient Chinese, holds great historical significance.
Based on the analysis of the region's ancient environment and climatic advantages, the series delves into the latest archaeological excavations and research findings from various sites. It will discuss the development of ancient settlement forms, the influence of colored pottery culture, the evolution of the Ding (ritual vessel) and more.
The series will also comb through the records of over 30 ancient books which corroborate these findings, including the "Book of Documents," "Rites of Zhou," and "Records of the Grand Historian," providing viewers with a fascinating glimpse into the ancient history of China and shedding light on the Heluo area's unique role in shaping the civilization's early stages.
The series will make its debut on CCTV-1, the TV channel of the CMG.
