Giant Panda film week concludes in Ya'an 2023/11/17 source: International Daily Print

The ninth Ya'an Giant Panda and Nature Film Week concluded Friday in southwest China's Sichuan Province, where film makers called on the public to promote biodiversity conservation.

Held in Ya'an City, one of the native homes to giant panda, the five-day Film Week displayed 42 environment- and wildlife-themed films selected from over 1,700 entries by producers from across the world.
The jury awarded seven best works, including Saving Paradise: Daintree Rainforest co-produced by French Connection Films, Cábala Producciones and Duo 2 TV, The Power of Nature by China Central Television (CCTV), and A Snow Leopard and Her Friends directed by Chinese wildlife photographer and environmentalist Xi Zhinong.
"I think this is perhaps the best way to tell China's stories and China's stories about ecology well, which enables more of the Chinese public to learn about such a beautiful nature and unique wildlife of China through such films," said Xi, an independent film producer.
Some famous Chinese actors and actresses were also present at the event to promote films on ecology.
"We should make more efforts to promote insightful and humanistic productions in movies for the public good. I hope more of our peers in the film and TV industry could join us," said actor Bao Jianfeng.
"In fact, the most meaningful thing for us is to actively participate in the creation of related films. I think we humans should coexist equally with animals and nature, so I appeal to everyone to be kind to animals and nature," said actress Huang Xiaolei.
Initiated in 2007, the film festival is designed to present the unique charm of Ya'an City as a hometown of giant pandas, and boost international cooperation on environmental protection through film-making.
