China’s Ministry of Transport recently announced the 2025 typical cases for high-quality waterway tourist routes in China. The “waterway route around Jiaozhou Bay” in Qingdao is included among the typical cases for urban landscape tourism.
Since its inception in August 2024, the “waterway route around Jiaozhou Bay” has welcomed a total of 2.3503 million tourists. With Qingdao Ferry Terminal at its core, the route has a cluster of modern ports, including Qingdao Xiaogang, Zhonggang, the cruise home port, and Dagang, connected with one another, and helped transform Qingdao Ferry Terminal from a pure transportation hub to a well sought-after cultural and tourist landmark. The route prides itself on having two core tourist products, namely, the tangerine-colored sea surface against the setting sun and an ecological interaction featuring “chasing after sea gulls and waves”.
