On September 4, a transport vehicle with International Road Transport Convention (TIR) identification arrived at the Qingdao Dagang Customs-supervised operation site. The TIR-labelled vehicle carried 21 ton dried black currant, urgently needed raw materials imported from Uzbekistan by Qingdao Wolong Food Co., Ltd. The arrival of the first batch of imported goods to Shandong through TIR, also the first imported shipment through TIR from Uzbekistan that was transported to Eastern China’s coastal areas via Kazakhstan, marked the official opening of Shandong Province’s first import channel through TIR.
“Previously, foreign TIR-labelled vehicles could only stop at China’s land border ports. The vehicle from Uzbekistan can have direct access to Eastern China’s coastal area after entering China and travelled a total of more than 5,400km, representing a major breakthrough.” said Sun Hongjian, deputy director of Qingdao Dagang Customs.
