China’s largest LNG storage tank has recently been mechanically completed in Qingdao, marking the 270,000 square meters ultra-large LNG storage tank project, of the fastest Chinese speed in construction, has made a vital breakthrough and started the countdown to formal operation.

Reportedly, the third phase of the Shandong LNG project, consisting of expansion of outward transfer capacity, a LNG pier and a LNG storage tank, will become China’s largest LNG terminal with an annual reception capacity of 11mt LNG after put into operation. With a height of 58m and the largest diameter of 100.6m in China, the storage tank with a holding capacity of 270,000 square meters is being built by Qingdao LNG Co., Ltd. under SINOPEC Natural Gas Company, which has tackled such key technological problems as finite element analysis of dome stability, temperature field analysis for ultra-large LNG storage tanks and filled the technological gap in construction of 270,000 square meters LNG storage tanks in China.

The tank is scheduled to be put into operation this November when the Qingdao-based LNG terminal will see an additional storage capacity of 168 million square meters.  (Wang Kai)
