Those projects or individuals receiving the 2022 provincial science and technology awards were commended in the Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Conference held on June 20. As many as 80 projects or individuals from Qingdao were honored with the awards, representing 37.6% of Shandong Province’s total.
Among the awards Qingdao has received, there are one supreme award won by Bao Zhenmin, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor at Ocean University of China, one youth award won by Tan Yeqiang, a professor at Qingdao University as well as 13 natural science awards, 10 awards for technological invention and 55 awards for scientific and technological progress, 17 of which are the first prize awards. Of all the awards Qingdao received, 66 of them were chaired by Qingdao-based universities, research institutions and enterprises, occupying as much as 82.5%。
Over the decade, seven science and technology practitioners from Qingdao have been successively honored with the Shandong Provincial Supreme Science and Technology Award. Bao Zhenmin, the latest winner, has long engaged in research of aquatic breeding, evaluated germplasm resources of Chinese scallops in a systemic manner, finished genome mapping for a variety of shellfish and taken in lead in developing “liquid chips”, which reach the world advanced level in technology.
The Qingdao-based projects honored with the awards are dominated by projects in its key industries and competitive industries and of distinctive Qingdao characteristics. According to statistics, more than 70% of these projects are found in such industries as high-end equipment manufacturing, new generation information technology and healthcare. (Geng Tingting)
