The “Guo Yun Hai” vessel, the first vessel for the new North African route, which is loaded with 606 TEUs and headed for Egypt and Libya, recently berthed at the Qianwan container terminal of Qingdao Port in the West Coast New Area of Qingdao. This marks that Qingdao Port has added a new shipping route. Qingdao in the first quarter of 2026 witnessed the opening of seven new international container shipping routes.
The seven new shipping routes span Southeast Asia, Africa and Central and South America. Among them, the North Africa route will directly serve production capacity cooperation between China and such countries as Egypt and Libya as well as infrastructure construction in these countries, the Central and South America route will help Chinese companies to further tap into Latin American markets, and the Southeast Asia route will help develop a more tightly woven logistics network between China and Southeast Asia and facilitate smooth integration of industrial and supply chains in the region.
Qingdao Port, hailed as the largest foreign trade port in Northern China, currently boasts a total of nearly 240 foreign trade routes, and has fostered connectivity with more than 700 ports in over 180 countries and regions.
