The 150,000-metric-ton intelligent aquaculture vessel Guoxin No 1 2-2 by Qingdao Guoxin Group was delivered on Nov 15. The vessel features significant upgrades in its feeding, processing, deep-water intake, and fish harvesting systems. It will lead year-round salmon farming trials in China, aiming to modernize and strengthen the domestic salmon industry.

Global shipbuilding demand is rising, especially for bulk carriers following the launch of the Simandou iron ore project in Guinea. Qingdao is capturing a significant share of these new orders. In September 2025, a bulker company under COSCO Shipping ordered four 210,000-ton Capesize vessels at CSSC Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding, representing a substantial investment.

Marine equipment manufacturing is a cornerstone of Qingdao's modern marine industrial system. The city is experiencing a robust wave of orders and deliveries, signaling vibrant growth in its blue economy. In Qingdao West Coast New Area, for instance, the shipbuilding and offshore engineering cluster reported an output value of 26.25 billion yuan ($3.71 billion) in the first eight months of this year, with the key Haixi Bay industrial base seeing a 12 percent year-on-year increase.

Major enterprises like Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding are now operating at full capacity, with their order books extending through 2029, highlighting Qingdao's rising prominence in the global shipbuilding industry.
