Christian Doelle, chief executive officer of Weiss Chemie Technik GmbH & Co KG, and executive vice president Sven Ringsdorf visited the Qingdao FTZ on Nov 20 for discussions with Gao Shanwu, director of the Qingdao Free Trade Zone Administration Committee, about establishing Weiss's China headquarters project.
Earlier this year, Weiss Chemie executives visited China twice to assess 12 potential sites across six cities. Qingdao was chosen as the preferred location after thorough research and strong support from local departments. On Oct 22, the Sino-German Ecopark and Weiss Chemie signed a letter of intent at the Qingdao-Germany Economic and Trade Cooperation Exchange.
The company decided to upgrade its original plan from establishing a production facility to a full-fledged China headquarters, which integrates trading, R&D, and production. The zone's team quickly advanced commercial terms, plant leasing, and business registration. Weiss New Materials (Qingdao) Co Ltd completed its business registration in under a day, becoming the seventh company from a German-speaking region to settle in the Ecopark this year.
Doelle praised the efficiency of the Qingdao FTZ, highlighting its professional services and favorable investment environment. The project's establishment will enhance the new materials industry value chain and boost the zone's manufacturing and innovation capabilities.
