Qingdao Today
The Qingdao Comprehensive Transport System Planning (2021-2035) was recently released prior to approval. According to the Planning, in an overall effort to become an international comprehensive transport-hub city by 2035, Qingdao strives to build an international shipping center, an international aviation hub, a national railway hub and an international metropolitan transportation system, thus facilitating all-round opening up by building connections with other countries over land and sea while creating synergy between its eastern and western regions.
As for ports, Qingdao will make an all-out effort to build an international hub sea-port, a leading port among the cluster of world-class ports on Shandong Peninsula as well as an international shipping hub and logistics center in Northeast Asia. Jiaodong International Airport will move faster to improve its functions as a regional hub and a gateway, and seek progress in international connectivity, transit shipment and the ability to engage with other regions. Qingdao will beef up efforts to build the railway network, work hard to advance the construction of coastal railways, and improve the regional inter-city network. The trunk highway network, which is Qingdao-oriented and is extending its influence towards the Jiaodong Economic Circle, will be improved to promote the integration between highways and urban roads, and to build the mainstay of roads in a holistic approach. Furthermore, with a focus on paving urban roads and building the public transport system, Qingdao plans to establish a backbone road network in urban areas across the bay in a bid to provide world-class modern urban transport services.
