China’s first all-scenario hydrogen energy port commences construction in Qingdao 2024/6/24 source: International daily Print

On June 12, the launching ceremony of the construction of China’s first all-scenario hydrogen energy port was held in Qingdao, and Qingdao Port rolled out the latest planning for the hydrogen energy port. As shown in the planning, Qingdao Port will accelerate its efforts to drive the application of hydrogen energy across all chains and under multiple scenarios.

A hydrogen energy port mainly refers to a port where hydrogen energy can be used, cultivated and traded. Qingdao Port has currently made a number of breakthroughs in the construction of a hydrogen energy port. China’s first port hydrogen refueling station has been built, where more than 80,000 kgs of hydrogen was refueled, reducing over 1,000 tons of carbon emissions. Qingdao Port has taken the lead in China in achieving the large-scale demonstration operation of port hydrogen energy vehicles, and put into use 50 hydrogen energy vehicles of all kinds for port operations, which saw a total operating mileage of 800,000 km, equivalent to replacement of 260,000 liters of conventional fuel oil. It has pioneered globally the use of DC microgrid rail-mounted gantry cranes featuring electro-hydrogen coupling, ushering large machinery and equipment in ports into the new era of hydrogen energy. It has succeeded in developing the world’s first hydrogen-electric hybrid towboat having a super power of 7,000 hp. Being carbon emission- and pollution-free, the towboat can annually reduce more than 1,400 tons of carbon emissions and sets up a good example for the transition into low-carbon and environment-friendly ships.
