The National Marine Fishery Genetic Resource Center project in Qingdao, undertaken by the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research institute, China Academy of Fishery Sciences, recently passed the national acceptance inspection. The resource center leads its Chinese peers in terms of investment, fishery varieties and facilities, with a storage capacity of up to 340,000 pieces.
With a total investment of 162 mln RMB and a construction area of 20,648 square meters, the center has established a storage environment system for temperatures ranging from 4℃ to -196℃. The resource center has by far stored close to 140,000 pieces of physical marine fishery genetic resource and more than 500,000 pieces of information resource, succeeded in sequencing genomes of over 50 important kinds of marine fishery lives and become a pacesetter in China’s sector of marine fishery genetic resources, thus helping transform the storage of marine fishery genetic resources away from decentralization and repetition to centralization, standardization and systematization.
