The rapid road network in the urban areas of Qingdao on the east bank, which is characterized by “four verticals and five horizontals”, has been largely established, as a new batch of municipal roads are completed and put into use, including Liaoyang Rapid Road, Chongqing Elevated Road, the second phase of the elevated road for the cross-sea bridge, Tanghe Road-Anshun Road and the Jinjialing Viaduct.

The most important “vertical part” of the planned rapid road network, the Chongqing Elevated Road extends 17.7 km from Shandong Road in the south to Xianshan Road in the north, consisting of 7 interchanges and 9 pairs of ramps upward and downward to get connected with the Qingdao-Xinhe Expressway, the Qingdao-Longkou Expressway and other expressways. Liaoyang Rapid Road is an extension and supplement to the horizontal rapid road and helps enhance further the interconnectivity of municipal transportation infrastructure. The Jinjialing Viaduct, which serves as an important transit hub in the rapid road network featuring “four verticals and five horizontals”, boasts four ramp areas where an underground parking lot with an area of around 76,600 square meters and 1,673 parking spaces has been built, and emerges as a comprehensive transportation center integrating ground viaduct, underground bus, metro interchange and commercial service to improve the quality of regional transportation.

Over the past three years since the start of the three-year urban renovation and construction campaign, rapid roads spanning approximately 25 km have been paved to accelerate the formation of the municipal road network with the hallmarks of “fast network forming, comprehensive nodes, well-paved arterial roads and smooth branch roads”.
