Behind-the-scenes video of the short film “The River that Holds My Hand” premieres!
The short films of the #2023 Maritime Guangdong Program have all wrapped up! Here comes the first release of behind-the-scenes videos of the movie "The River that Holds My Hand".
A young man wants to capture memories that have not yet disappeared. While visiting an elderly Chinese man in the village, he comes across a black-and-white family photo that is filled with nostalgia. This inspires him to take the picture with him and travel across the ocean to Saigon to explore more.
For generations, people from the Chaoshan area have embarked on journeys to the expansive Mekong Delta, bringing immigrant culture that leads to similarities in landscapes, architecture, and beliefs between the two places. However, wars and political changes have scattered their families far and wide. On the streets of Saigon, the man, clutching the photograph, is lost in a blend of reality, memories, dreams, and imagination.
The crew of "The River that Holds My Hand" shuttles between Vietnam and Chaozhou, guiding the viewers to seek the homeland in the old man's memory. The film, inspired by real events, tries its best to focus on the tactile sense as an important bridge to awaken memory and connect emotions by using the medium of film to explore fiction and reality, memory, and existence within and beyond the camera.
