An amusing and interactive performance featuring Tang Dynasty culture and plot orchestration crossing time and space has caused great sensation in a tourist landmark in Xi'an, an ancient city in northwest China.

The creative performance, combining humorous story-telling and quick-witted queries, caused a stir both online and offline among the audiences, grabbing heaps of appraises and cheers for the profound historical knowledge and sense of humor displayed by the two actors.

The performance named "A Secret Box from the Prosperous Tang Dynasty" is staged every evening in the Datang Everbright City, a street with the background of the Tang Dynasty (618-907) culture and theme of the Tang elements in Xi'an.

The performance is set against the background that two famous prime ministers of the Tang Dynasty - Fang Xuanling and Du Ruhui - came to the Datang Everbright City for talent recruitment after a time travel.

The two actors in traditional Chinese costume randomly select volunteers among the tourists to come on stage to answer questions ranging from historical allusions, poems and verse, to simple math problems and brain teasers. The participants are always overwhelmed by the questions and ultimately win the consolation prize of having photos taken with the actors.

The actors can not only amuse the audience with their innovative performance mode and humorous lines, but also bring them closer to the traditional Chinese culture.

"I think it is a cultural and creative product of the Qujiang New District, through which we can gain a better understanding of cultural knowledge. It's both entertaining and informative," said a tourist surnamed Wang.

"The performance is good because it has brought knowledge in books to reality and disseminate it, especially Xi'an culture," said another tourist surnamed Zhang.

Wang Ze who plays Fang Xuanling and Chen Yufei who is cast in the role of Du Ruhui hope the tourists can learn more about Chinese culture through their performance.

"We are very happy to be well-received. It's our duty and obligation to promote Chinese culture, especially when we are in Xi'an, an ancient capital. Everyone should make contributions to it," said Wang Ze.
