Shanghai's museums have extended their opening hours and organized special exhibitions and educational activities to keep visitors entertained during the summer season. The Shanghai History Museum is holding a special exhibition on the Yangtze River Estuary No. 2 ancient ship, one of the world's largest and most well-preserved ancient wooden shipwrecks which was discovered on the riverbed near Shanghai and brought to the surface in November last year.

Along with a display of the many exquisite artifacts recovered from the wreck, the exhibition also includes other activities, such as mini adventures, interactive family games and special dramatic performances for children..

"It was too hot during the day, so my friends and I decided to go out and have fun together at night. We happened to see a link introducing the activities being held at the Shanghai History Museum. We all thought the activities were excellent, so we brought our children here," said Chi Ling, a visitor.

At the Shanghai Guanfu Museum, tour guides dressed in gorgeous Tang Dynasty (618-907) costumes were explaining to visitors the origin and story behind each exhibit, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in Tang era culture and history.

The museums are also offering discounts on tickets and sales of creative cultural items , with some even offering dining options surrounded by the museum collections.

"In addition to cultural products, we should create more educational, recreational, experiential and consumer products for adults and children. We should combine museum tours with different products and services to suit people's varied tastes,” said Zhou Qunhua, curator of the Shanghai History Museum.
