Streets and alleys of Changsha City of central China's Hunan Province are filled with a strong festive atmosphere during the Spring Festival holiday, with residents wishing for good luck and enjoying a wide range of festive goods at temple fairs.
Ushering in the Year of Dragon, a mythical creature symbolizing auspiciousness and good luck in the Chinese traditional culture, this year's Spring Festival holiday runs from Feb 10 to 17.
Chinese character Fu (meaning good luck in Chinese) was written on bright red paper, and Spring Festival couplets that express ardent hope for a prosper new year, can be seen at scenic spots, supermarkets, shops along the streets, and especially on doors of every household.
The temple fair, also known as "miaohui" in Chinese, is considered one of the most representative traditions during the Spring Festival holiday.
At a temple fair in the city, visitors enjoyed colorful cultural performances, stalls and peddlers are hot selling fans with Chinese painting, sugar-blowing products, various decorations, and a dazzling array of traditional snacks.
At the temple fair, people wrote their new year wishes on red wooden planks, and were very happy to touch decorations with dragon head, believing it will bring a good start to the year.
When night falls, residents and visitors gathered along the Xiangjiang River, the iconic river of the city that witnessed the region's historical changes, to set off fireworks to celebrate the holiday.
