The Ice-Snow World in Harbin, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, will be closed as from 24:00 Thursday due to the rising temperature and windy weather, the scenic area announced Tuesday.
In the coming days, the highest temperature in Harbin, a city known for its bitterly cold weather, is expected to rise to five degrees Celsius, according to the National Meteorological Center.
Now, affected by strong winds and rising temperatures, visible gaps have appeared between the once tightly packed ice bricks at the renowned ice and snow theme park. Meanwhile, the once crystal-clear ice sculptures are now appearing frosted as the melting process begins.
To ensure tourist safety and avoid accidents or injuries, the tops of some tall sculptures have already been removed. Certain ice sculptures in the park that pose a potential danger have been either demolished or cordoned off to prevent visitors from approaching them.
The park said tourists who had made reservations can apply for a refund through the original purchase channel.
The 25th Harbin Ice-Snow World, which opened on December 18 last year, covers 816,682.5 square meters and features over 2,000 ice and snow sculptures, marking the largest scale in its history.
From Feb 10 to 14, the winter park had attracted around 329,000 visitors, a year-on-year increase of 115 percent, said the Harbin Municipal Government at a press conference on Thursday.
