In the newly-unveiled list of winners for the 14th China Young Volunteer Award, three outstanding volunteers, one voluntary service organization and one voluntary service project from Qingdao have borne the palm. To date, Qingdao is home to more than 2.45 mln registered volunteers, representing 24% of the permanent resident population, and more than 15,000 voluntary service organizations. With a rising number of volunteers, Qingdao becomes increasingly known as a city of unselfish love and voluntary service.
Qingdao has rolled out and implemented a slew of policy documents to regulate voluntary services. Furthermore, recruitment for public service jobs can help optimize the composition of volunteers on a continual basis. More than 7,100 voluntary service corps, such as “Linlibang” (neighbors should help each other) and “Haojiafeng” (fine family tradition), have been set up to help voluntary services penetrate in such priorities as grassroots social governance, cultural progress and rural vitalization.
