Qingdao recently held a field observation meeting on tourism quality improvement across the city, in which key tasks have been mapped out to seek breakthroughs in tourism quality improvement and to accelerate the construction of an international coastal tourism destination. The observation was followed by a meeting on citywide improvements in tourism quality, in which it is emphasized that efforts need to be ramped up in regard to tourism project and project planning, and key fields such as coastal and marine tourism, urban renovation, culture and sports, wellness holiday and rural tourism need to be prioritized to plan for a batch of landmark projects and diversify the system of featured tourism products on a continual basis. With a focus on issues concerning tourism docks, landscape environment and tourist market, sustained efforts will be made to take remedial actions to foster a higher-quality tourism environment. Furthermore, it is necessary to improve continuously the tourism service capacity, expedite the construction of ancillary facilities such as the tourist service center and parking lots and provide better digital tourism services to make citizens and tourists feel increasingly involved and satisfactory.

As the tourism sector is a pillar of Qingdao’s economy and symbolic of the city, high-quality development of tourism is essential to promoting high-quality social and economic development across the city.  (Xue Huafei)
