Zigong City in southwest China's Sichuan Province recently staged a fascinating light carnival which highlighted immersive experience and created spectacular scenes for holidaymakers during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday to share the festive joy.
The show featured long galaxies of light installations, with Chinoiserie-themed lights dazzling visitors with their ingenious designs.
The "Tiangong" or "Heavenly Palace" light installations were the biggest highlight of the carnival, which stretched over 270 meters with the highest point reaching nearly 30 meters.
Light installations shaped as Tiangong buildings and twenty-eight mansions in traditional Chinese astrology above the ground, and those themed on the 24 solar terms of the Chinese lunar calendar on the ground, formed a subtle interplay of shapes and colors.
"The lights are so beautiful and exquisite," said a tourist.
Time-honored brands and intangible cultural heritage also jazzed up the light carnival. In addition, an assortment of activities was put on, such as drone shows, Hanfu-themed parades, pitch-pot or Touhu game, and tea tasting, offering a sensory feast to tourists.
"We came and found that the street has changed a lot. The decorations are very festive," said a local resident.
"It is so much fun!" her kid exclaimed in delight at the scene.
Data showed that since the carnival started on Sept 28, it had received nearly 200,000 visits as of Tuesday, of which 90 percent came from outside the city.
The Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday will last from Sept 29 to Oct 6. This extended vacation period allows Chinese people to enjoy an eight-day break for travel and leisure.
