Gong Gong and Shun Shun, giant panda brothers residing at the Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park, celebrated their 11th birthday on Saturday with a lavish feast, marking a milestone in their life and delighting visitors with their joyful festivities.
Born a week apart in August 2013 at Ya'an Bifengxia Panda Base in southwest China's Sichuan province, Gong Gong and Shun Shun are the offspring of Lu Lu, who is known for its distinctive round face. Their father's wild lineage adds to their endearing appeal.
The birthday feast featured a giant fruit and vegetable ice cake, tropical fruit skewers, and bamboo.
Shun Shun sat a bit further away from the crowd, contentedly munching on bamboo, while Gong Gong, seated close to the window and surrounded by visitors, relished his bamboo with his face stained purple from the dragon fruit on his cake.
During the event, young volunteers from a local primary school added an educational touch to the celebration by using bamboo and panda-themed materials to teach visitors about ecological conservation. Their engaging session underscored the importance of protecting wildlife while showcasing the endearing nature of the panda brothers.
