China's box office revenue for 2025 has so far surpassed 46 billion yuan (about 6.5 billion U.S. dollars), latest data showed on Sunday.

With this year's last extended film season (from late November to early March) approaching, many highly anticipated new films are slated to hit the big screens. ?

According to preliminary statistics, more than 50 titles are scheduled for release this month. Many of these films, thanks to their outstanding performances at major international film festivals this year, have already generated considerable buzz beforehand.

"Girl", a 2025 coming-of-age drama film written and directed by Chinese actress Shu Qi, was selected to compete for the Golden Lion award at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival. Adapted from her personal experience, the film explores the impact of family of origin on individuals and showcases the complexity and contradictions of women's growth.

"The Sun Rises on Us All" tells a story of ex-lovers who meet again many years later, but their estranged yet intertwined daily lives gradually unveil their tragic past. While one of them seeks redemption, the other yearns for release. In a painful and final farewell, they awaken from their wandering for one last heart-wrenching embrace. Actress Xin Zhilei won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the 82nd Venice Film Festival for it.

"Resurrection", written and directed by Chinese director Bi Gan and starring Yi Yangqianxi and Shu Qi, won the Special Award in the main competition section of the 78th Cannes Film Festival. Spanning a century in six chapters, it presents audiences with a dreamlike and poetic cinematic journey.

Meanwhile, the Shanghai-dialect film "Shanghai Wonton" and China's first public welfare film on adolescent AIDS "Love Youth" also offer diverse viewing experiences through their realistic themes, combining warmth and depth.

After experiencing downturns in recent years, China's film market got off to a strong start this year, crossed a crucial milestone during the National Day holiday in early October, and is poised to exceed 50 billion yuan in box office revenue by the end of 2025, according to estimates by industry observers.
