The 2025 Southern China Book Fair is now underway in Guangzhou, the capital city of south China's Guangdong Province, offering readers an one-stop gateway to the world's diverse cultures and literatures.
Running from August 15 to 19, this year's edition showcases global literary richness through dedicated pavilions and themed zones, with Vietnam as the guest of honor.
The fair also features expanded sections for Southeast Asia, Central Asia, the Arab world, and Europe, as well as special areas highlighting international publishing brands and contemporary art.
Among the most cherished international icons on display is Miffy, the beloved little rabbit from the acclaimed series of picture books drawn and written by Dutch artist Dick Bruna (1927-2017). Seventy years after her debut, Miffy continues to enchant readers across more than 50 languages.
At the Netherlands pavilion, award-winning science fiction author Roderick Leeuwenhart made a personal appearance, drawing significant attention from Chinese readers.
His acclaimed novel "Star Body" has resonated deeply with readers in China, earning widespread praise on Douban -- one of the country's most influential platforms for book and film reviews.
"There are a lot of reviews on Douban, and they've been largely positive, and I really like it. The Chinese reception has been great. And I love that China has invited me back here," said Leeuwenhart.
The fair also pays tribute to Hong Kong's rich cinematic heritage with a special section showcasing books on Hong Kong cinema. Featured works include those by acclaimed director Wong Kar-wai, renowned for his poetic storytelling, evocative visuals, and profound influence on filmmakers worldwide.
Organizers emphasize that this year's event aims to build a dynamic knowledge-sharing ecosystem, fostering deeper cultural understanding and cross-border literary collaboration. With thousands of publishers, authors, and readers in attendance, the Southern China Book Fair continues to grow as a premier platform for global cultural dialogue.
