Over 50 new achievements in the shipping and aviation sectors were unveiled at the ongoing 2025 North Bund Forum in Shanghai, marking the highest number in the forum's history.
The 2025 North Bund Forum, the fifth edition of the event, is co-hosted by the Ministry of Transport and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government.
Scheduled to run from Sunday to Tuesday, the event features multiple sub-forums and over 10 themed events, aiming to deepen China's participation in global maritime governance and accelerate the building of a world-leading international shipping center.
At the North Bund International Shipping Forum on Sunday, participants said the global economic landscape is undergoing profound changes, and green transformation has become a global consensus as technologies like artificial intelligence are reshaping industrial ecosystems.
They also noted that high-quality development in the shipping industry can be achieved only through revolutionary technological breakthroughs, innovative allocation of production factors, and in-depth industrial transformation and upgrading.
"Actions are needed to accelerate the implementation of the AI Plus initiative to build a framework of 'one main shipping industry model plus multiple models from vertical domains,' to pursue development through innovation and foster new quality productive forces in the sector," said Wan Min, chairman of China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited.
During the event, over 50 latest industrial achievements were released in fields including green shipping, shipping network layout, technical standards, service innovation, and international cooperation.
At the 2025 North Bund International Aviation Forum, another key sub-forum held at the same day, new achievements in global passenger and cargo air network development, hub transfer efficiency enhancement, and the sustainable use of aviation fuel were also released.
Han Jun, deputy administrator of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), highlighted digital and intelligent development and green transformation of the aviation industry.
"We need to plan and focus on three key drivers of new quality productive forces in civil aviation, namely smart aviation, the low-altitude economy, and sustainable aviation fuel, to accelerate digital and green transformation through improving productivity layout," said Han.
