An exhibition of porcelain artworks from Jingdezhen, an east China city renowned for its over 1,700-year history of porcelain making, kicked off in Paris, France, on Tuesday, as part of exchange events marking the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and France.
Co-sponsored by the Chinese Culture Center in Paris and the authorities in Jiangxi Province which is home to Jingdezhen, dubbed as the "ceramics capital of China", the exhibition presented 48 porcelain artworks featuring five themes including the "Silk Road", "New Ceramics Language", "Colorful China", "Ceramics World", and "Harmony on Earth".
Attending the opening ceremony were Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in France Chen Li and former French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin, other celebrities from the two countries, and 180-plus guests from the French art, culture and media societies.
Noting that both China and France share a wide range of similarities in their respective porcelain art, Chen likened them to people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, commending the mutual understanding and shared affinity that have developed between the people of the two countries over the past six decades despite cultural differences.
Describing the exhibition as a bridge of communication between the two cultures, Chen suggested the guests and visitors to appreciate the eternal beauty of porcelain artworks and the charm of art beyond national borders at the exhibition.
The exhibits fully demonstrate the prominent role of Jingdezhen porcelain artworks in continuity, innovation, unity, inclusiveness and peacefulness advocated by Chinese civilization.
