Qingdao’s urban renovation and construction “visible and tangible” 2023/7/29 source: International daily Print

The Qingdao three-year urban renovation and construction campaign has made new progress in the first half of 2023.

The second phase of the elevated road for the cross-sea bridge and the south section of the fast road tunnel project of Liaoyang Road have opened to traffic, such low-efficiency districts as areas on the two sides of Zhangcun River and on the north side of Baisha River are under fast restructuring, and 210 key business entities in five categories have been introduced to the historical urban district where a slew of internet-famous consumption sites have emerged. Qingdao has begun the construction of 1,224 renovation projects and seen a commencement rate of 91% as of the end of this June. Urban renovation and construction has brought citizens “visible” changes and “tangible” happiness, such as a better living environment, smoother traffic, renewed hill parks and diversified business modes.

To prioritize the needs of citizens, Qingdao has chalked up “Qingdao speed” in a number of key projects, highlight the city’s determination to improve urban functions and qualities. Furthermore, Qingdao has attempted to carry out urban renovation in tandem with improvements in urban governance, which proved effective. Qingdao has previously issued globally an announcement to solicit urban design plans for the neighborhood of Zhangcun River in Laoshan District of Qingdao and initiated the building of a team of residential neighborhood planners which now consists of 252 youth professionals.
