At a factory in Qingdao, robotic arms and skilled workers are busy assembling, testing, and fine-tuning brand-new electric vehicles. Once all indicators meet standards, the cars will be shipped to Egypt.
Under the Belt and Road Initiative, China-Africa economic and trade cooperation has continued to deepen, with automotive exports becoming a core driver of growth. Egypt, as a key hub in North Africa, offers vast potential for new energy vehicles.
"With the upgrading of Egypt's infrastructure and increasing local demand for better mobility, high-performance and well-adapted vehicles are increasingly sought after," said Dai Xiaojing, manager of Rox Motor (Qingdao) International Trade Co.
To take advantage of this opportunity, Qingdao-based automakers have leveraged the city's complete automotive supply chain and strong R&D capabilities to customize vehicles for the Egyptian market. To adapt to the local hot, sandy climate, they optimized the vehicles' heat dissipation and dust resistance.
"In the first eight months of this year, our EV exports to Egypt reached 134 million yuan ($20.02 million), up 200 percent year-on-year," Dai said.
Qingdao Dagang Customs has also stepped up support by providing early compliance reviews, technical trade warnings, and streamlined customs clearance services to facilitate exports.
In the first eight months, Qingdao's total exports to Egypt reached 3.33 billion yuan, up 30.7 percent year-on-year, with EV exports surging 177.7 percent.
