The 2026 Xinhua-Baltic International Shipping Center Development Index Report was recently unveiled, highlighting leading maritime centers globally. Qingdao has sustained steady progress, climbing from the 15th position in 2024, the 13th position in 2025 to the 12th position in 2026. Qingdao continues to lead the way among all ports in northern China, underscoring its solid resilience and vitality amid the transformation of global shipping landscape.

Qingdao Port in 2025 handled 741 million metric tons of cargo and 32.89 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), increasing by 4.1% and 6.5% year on year, respectively, and ranked among the world’s five busiest container ports.

In the first half of 2026, Qingdao Port boasted as many as 240 shipping routes for foreign trade, which span more than 700 ports in over 180 countries and regions. (Zhou Jianliang)
