As summer approaches, bright red cherries hang on the trees in Shanseyu village, Qingdao, marking the start of a bountiful harvest season.

Shanseyu village is renowned for its abundant cherry production, earning the reputation as the "No 1 cherry valley in Shandong". With its picturesque green mountains and clear waters, the unique climatic conditions here produce cherries of exceptional quality.

"This year is a bumper harvest. The weather was perfect during fruit setting, so the total yield has doubled compared to last year. The picking season will last longer, until the end of May," said Yang Hong, who runs the Xiaoyang Cherry Orchard. With over 200 old cherry trees, her family expects an income of about 100,000 yuan from this year's picking season.

Beyond cherry picking, Shanseyu has developed a diverse agritourism model integrating coffee shops, homestays, and family-friendly activities.

Xiangshi Farm, focusing on urban families, has launched projects such as "shared farm" and "online farming", along with parent-child programs like seasonal picking and field education. "Our turnover reached about 200,000 yuan ($29,430.80) in April and nearly 100,000 yuan during the May Day holiday, exceeding expectations," said Luan Mengmeng, head of Xiangshi Farm.

Shanseyu cherries are a national geographic-indication agricultural product, with 4,000 mu (266.67 hectares) of cherry orchards. Sun Pizheng, a local Party branch official, explained their approach: improving traffic and parking, linking cherry picking with cafes, farms, and homestays, and promoting online and offline sales to help farmers obtain better prices.
