During the five-day May Day holiday, Qingdao emerged as a top travel destination domestically. From strolling the boardwalk at Yan'erdao Park to speedboat rides on the sea off Xiaomai Island, and from cultural pop-ups in the historic district to countryside fruit-picking, the city offered a vibrant mix of urban and rural experiences.

According to major travel platforms, Qingdao ranked among China's top 10 holiday destinations during the holiday. On the first day alone, the city's coastal scenic area received the highest number of visitors among 200 key scenic spots monitored in Shandong province.

Sea-based tourism saw a remarkable surge: joint sea tour operations carried 172,700 passengers, an 11.95 percent increase year-on-year. On May 4, daily ridership reached 54,801, marking a 55.58 percent rise, with revenues increasing 63.65 percent. Two new premium routes, including the "viewing the fairy mountains from the sea" from Yangkou Pier in Laoshan, enriched the maritime experience.

Visitors took to social media to praise Qingdao's stunning seascapes after the rain. The holiday's strong start and smooth operations have turned fast "traffic" into sustainable "spending", accelerating Qingdao's transformation into an integrated cultural, tourism, and recreational hub for both hosts and guests.
