Qingdao Cultural Center: A lifelong art school for city 2026/4/3 source: Print

For over six decades, the Qingdao Cultural Center — which also home to the city's intangible cultural heritage (ICH) protection center — has been a cultural landmark. Established in 1958, it serves as a lifelong art school for residents, merging learning, performance, and heritage in one location.

With a main building and an ICH-themed venue covering 8,714 square meters, the center includes fully equipped rehearsal rooms, art studios, digital experience halls, and a 130-seat theater. Open daily from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, it hosts exhibitions, folk art shows, and community performances throughout the year.

As the city's first immersive ICH space, the themed venue offers interactive exhibitions and workshops to bring traditional culture to life. A variety of unique activities are available year-round, including immersive folk-themed exhibitions, intangible cultural heritage study tours, and cultural lectures — allowing visitors to experience the essence of Qingdao's folk traditions.

The center has developed a distinctive cultural tourism brand called Joyful Seasons, launching programs such as the Qingdao International Folk Art Season and cultural pop-up events that deliver public cultural services directly to local communities. The city's only public folk art theater, the Qunxing Story Forum, offers lively sessions every Friday evening, providing residents with an accessible and engaging folk art experience.

Looking ahead to 2026, the center will enhance its digital services, expand outreach to communities and scenic areas, and introduce intergenerational cultural programs for children and seniors — making arts and culture accessible to everyone.
