In 2025, Qingdao's Sweet Economy reached a major milestone, with its total consumption exceeding 20 billion yuan ($2.8 billion). Driven by the city's distinctive coastal and mountain landscapes, the sector saw 8,326 non-local couples registering for marriage in the city, a notable year-on-year increase of 41.72 percent.

This growth is fueled by a rise in iconic wedding scenes that have positioned Qingdao as a leading destination for "destination weddings". The strategic integration of urban landmarks has been crucial; from the Rose Cascade at Anna Villa, known as one of China's most beautiful registration offices, to the 1314 Ferris Wheel, the city has nurtured a widespread romantic atmosphere.

Major events like the Qingdao International Beer Festival and the Qingdao Multinationals Summit have further enhanced this growth, hosting more than 100 activities and attracting 30 million offline participants.

Looking ahead to 2026, Qingdao is refocusing on high-quality industry evolution. Key initiatives include encouraging leading enterprises to lead the development of industry standards to ensure core competitiveness. The city advocates for long-term brand building to move beyond basic price competition, focusing instead on high-quality service and distinctive brand identities. Additionally, Qingdao aims to strengthen coordination across the wedding industry value chain to build a strong ecosystem.

Through its openness and status as an international consumption hub, the city is also encouraging local enterprises to align with global service standards. By capturing the growing demand for inbound consumption, Qingdao aims to elevate its romantic appeal on an international stage.
