On March 8, the first section of the "Lucayan", a floating dock with a record-breaking lifting capacity of 120,000 metric tons, departed from a terminal in Qingdao West Coast New Area (Qingdao WCNA). This is a significant leap in the area's advanced maritime engineering and shipbuilding capabilities.
Measuring 413.96 meters in length and 85.11 meters in width, the "Lucayan" is designed to meet demanding industrial needs. It has a state-of-the-art automated control system that combines intelligent ballasting with digital redundancy control technologies. These features allow for high-precision, automated submerging and surfacing operations, maximizing safety and efficiency during the docking process.
Designed for the global luxury cruise sector, the floating dock can handle the maintenance and retrofitting of the world's largest ICON-class cruise ships.
By filling a critical gap in large-scale vessel repair infrastructure, this project supports the international maritime service market with robust technical capabilities.
