Inside a modest factory in Qingdao's Jimo district, the excitement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup is already palpable. Giant printing machines operate tirelessly, automatic cutters precisely shape fabric, and skilled hands stitch thousands of colorful flags — each destined to wave in stadiums across North America.
From the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France to the 2026 tournament in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, Qingdao Wonderful Flag Industry Co Ltd has supplied flags for eight consecutive global football events, establishing itself as the largest "flags super factory" in northern China. Over half of all tournament flags now come from this facility. Each seemingly ordinary flag embodies the dedication of this Qingdao-based enterprise, while marking "Made in China" globally with every match.
"The orders started arriving in 2025," said Xiao Chang'ai, the company's chairwoman. "We're now producing hand flags, bunting, stadium banners, and supporter scarves for nearly all the participating nations — over 30 million flags in total. Our annual capacity of 10 million meters of fabric keeps us ready for the tournament rush."
Among the samples, one flag stands out: a 2014 Brazil World Cup German champion flag, still vibrant after these years. "We rushed that order overnight," Xiao recalled. "It's proof of our evolution from hand-stitching to fully automated production."
For the 2026 tournament, the company made specialized outdoor fabric resistant to UV rays, low temperatures, and tearing for North America's diverse climate. Orders are up 30 percent compared to the previous World Cup.
From a small workshop to supplying the Olympics, UEFA Champions League, and NBA, Qingdao Wonderful now produces one out of every three sports fan flags globally. This small-town enterprise, with its flags, builds a bridge between "Made in China" and the world.
