A hydrogen fuel cell-powered bus was recently charged with hydrogen in a refueling station in the Qingdao demonstration park for refined hydrogen energy. As the hydrogen fuel was poured into the vehicle, the reading on the meter jumped to 1 million kgs, in an indication that the output of Qingdao-produced hydrogen fuel has reached the 1,000 tons mark. With a focus on green transportation, Qingdao’s hydrogen energy sector has entered a new stage in terms of large-scale application.

Sinopec Qingdao Refining & Chemical Co., Ltd. produced the first batch of hydrogen for fuel cell applications in August 2021, thereby enabling vehicles in Qingdao to use hydrogen produced by Qingdao itself. From that day onwards, the output of Qingdao-produced fuel cells hydrogen is on a steady rise. The output from January to July this year reached 246 tons, exceeding the total output in 2024. Sinopec Qingdao Refining & Chemical Co., Ltd., which has a daily output of about 1,500 kgs of fuel cells hydrogen, can ensure a stable hydrogen energy supply chain in the Jiaodong Peninsula.  (Yang Guang)
