Qingdao recently released an action plan to build modern marine featured industrial cluster areas, in which the following targets have been set forth. By 2027, the development of marine featured industrial cluster areas will make a substantial headway, and the number of such areas will reach 10, about five of which will be provincial-level. By 2030, the city will be home to 15 marine featured industrial cluster areas, about 8 of which are provincial-level areas, and serve as the mainstay in the development of marine economy in the city and even across the province.

In an effort to build modern marine featured industrial cluster areas, Qingdao has prioritized the “4+4+2” modern marine industrial system to choose 10 sectors and 18 districts for cultivation. Port shipping cluster areas will be primarily located in the West Coast New Area, Shibei District and Shinan District. Shipbuilding and maritime engineering equipment industrial cluster areas will be built in the West Coast New Area and Jimo District. Marine pharmaceuticals and biological products cluster areas will be mainly accommodated in the West Coast New Area and Laoshan District.

It is foreseeable that Qingdao’s marine economy is poised to see solid strides as an increasing number of modern marine featured industrial cluster areas emerge, obtain recognition, and continue to play their guiding role.  (Li Xunxiang)
