According to a news conference recently held by the information office of Qingdao municipal government, Qingdao plans to launch more than 20,000 cultural performances of all kinds in the second half of 2024, including music festivals, artistic performances and public cultural activities, in an all-out effort to build the brand of cultural tourism “Touring Qingdao While Watching Performances” and to improve its overall image as an international coastal tourism destination.

Qingdao has received approvals to hold 35 large-scale performances with a 5,000-plus viewership this year to date. 16 large-scale concerts starring 14 celebrated singers or groups will be held in Qingdao. Furthermore, multiple music festivals including Qingdao Action Airport Music Festival, Xiami Music & Arts Festival and Qingdao Guoxin Nianhua Music Festival as well as more than 80 indoor concerts will take place as scheduled.

Following the premiere of Xun Meng Cang Hai, China’s first immersive musical play on the history of navigation, Hai Shang You Qingdao (Qingdao on the Sea), a newly-built large-scale project on tourism performance in Qingdao, which features the world’s first super-gigantic circular mechanical stage with a diameter of 120 meters, will be unveiled in front of audiences in the Phoenix Island Art Center on July 12.

Additionally, Qingdao has made painstaking efforts to launch 18 stage works, including musical plays Chicago and Anna Karenina and stage plays White Deer Plain and The Age of Awakening, as well as special performances by famous Peking opera, cross talk and talk show actors, to enrich recreational life of citizens and deliver more comfort to tourists.  (Ma Xiaoting)
