Qingdao takes bay-specific measures to improve marine ecological environment 2024/5/24 source: International Daily Print

With limpid waters and clean beaches, and flocks of fishes and sea gulls, Qingdao sees great harmony between mankind and the sea. 49 beautiful bays, all of which have their distinctive beauty, lie along Qingdao’s 905.2 km long coastal line. Qingdao takes coordinated steps to fight pollution on land and sea, and works hard to seek environmental conservation of rivers and seas. In consideration of environmental features and development positioning of these bay areas, Qingdao takes a bay-specific approach to advance key tasks and major projects aimed at curbing environmental pollution, pushing for ecological conservation and restoration and improving near-sea attractiveness, and makes an all-out effort to improve the marine ecological environment through the Beautiful Bay Initiative.

The gain in greenness adds to the quality of development in Qingdao. The Laoshan Bay Area is on track to become waste-free, where water quality has improved for three consecutive years, and the percentage of fine water quality in offshore areas has reached 100% for five years in a row. A high-quality “blue granary” lying under the vast sea surfaces of Aoshan Bay is taking shape faster. The Xiaodao Bay, which accommodates more than 50 national level scientific research institutions and research institutes of colleges and universities, 90 municipal level above innovation-oriented platforms, as well as over 300 provincial level above high-calibre professionals including members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and therefore wins itself the reputation as a “Wall street on marine science and technology”. Furthermore, the film and TV culture industry area, which is developing by leaps and bounds in the Lingshan Bay, has emerged as a new industrial symbol of Qingdao.  (Wu Shuai)
