Subject to a competitive review, Qingdao was recently included among the cities for 2024 involved in the national initiative for building multi-modal freight transportation hubs, entitled to a subsidy of up to RMB 1 bln from the central government. As a result, major opportunities are expected to arise for Qingdao to put up a smoother international logistics channel and accelerate the building of an international shipping center.

The multi-modal freight transportation hub, a key node in the comprehensive national transport network and a means to coordinate different means of transport, plays an important role in improving the transportation structure, enhancing the efficiency of the comprehensive transport network and modernizing the comprehensive transport system. According to the person in charge of Qingdao Municipal Transport Bureau, Qingdao will take advantage of the opportunities to continue making good use of such open platforms as the Qingdao Area of China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone and the SCO Demonstration Area, seek breakthroughs in had linkage for infrastructure and equipment, soft linkage for standards and services, and improvements of integrated operation mechanisms, and improve the reach-out and opening-up level of its sea, land and air ports.
