The coastal city of Qingdao in East China's Shandong province recently issued the Outline of the Beautiful Qingdao Construction Plan (2022-35), which clarifies the guiding ideology for the development of Beautiful Qingdao.

According to the outline, Qingdao will thoroughly implement eight key tasks, including building a green, low-carbon, and quality environment and building a harmonious ecosystem, all of which are expected to help turn Qingdao into a beautiful and charming city with increased livability and vitality.

The outline determined the basic principles behind the development of Beautiful Qingdao, which include adhering to ecological priorities and green development and adapting to local conditions, aiming to develop the city into a leading zone for green, low-carbon, and high-quality development, a priority area for ecological protection with coordinated land and sea, and a high-quality and livable model city in Shandong.

The outline also proposed 39 indicators for the development of Beautiful Qingdao in seven categories, including a green, low-carbon, and high-quality environment, harmonious ecology, resilient health, livable model, ecological culture, and modern system.

The planning indicators are based on the central government's decision-making deployment and provincial work requirements, adhere to the principles of seeking truth from facts and scientific planning, focus on promoting green, low-carbon, and high-quality development and the high-level protection of the natural environment, and make overall arrangements in conjunction with the city's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) and other deployments and work. Among the 39 planning indicators, 31 are related to Beautiful China and Beautiful Shandong, and eight special indicators relate to Qingdao's marine industry, eliminating waste, the creation of a beautiful bay, and more.
