There is a special ancestral hall in XiashaVillage, Huangpu District, Guangzhou. When you walk in, you can see the walls are covered with paddles and a variety of woodcutting tools. This is the studio of Zhang Weichao, a well-known dragon boat carving craftsman in Guangdong. The 35-year-old has been carving dragon boats for more than 20 years. From childhood "casually playing" to the world stage now, Zhang Weichao said: "Behind our carving skills you can find our folk culture, our soul and roots."
