[Fuzhou Evening News]On the 15th, after more than a year of preparation, the former residence of Hou Debang, located on Debang Road, Taijiang District, was officially opened to showcase Hou Debang's life stories, further promoting Hou Debang's patriotic and scientific spirit, and stimulating the patriotic enthusiasm of the people.
The former residence of Hou Debang was built in the Qing Dynasty. It faces south, with five rooms wide, five columns deep, and a bucket-style wooden frame, covering a total area of 667 square meters. Hou Debang, a famous Chinese chemist and founder of "Hou's Process for Soda Production", was born here and lived here as a teenager. In 2009, the former residence of Hou Debang was announced by the provincial government as one of the seventh batch of provincial cultural relics protection units.
Hou Debang's former residence has experienced hundreds of years of ups and downs. Fuzhou Taijiang District started the renovation of Hou Debang's former residence in May 2020 and launched the exhibition of Hou Debang's biography in October 2021. To further rejuvenate Hou Debang's former residence and bring it closer to people, Taijiang District has built an intangible cultural heritage protection and inheritance studio inside. Other provincial and municipal intangible cultural heritage projects such as the century-old Hong’s black tea making skills, Zhou's laryngology skills, and condensed incense making skills have been introduced to the community. Through an interactive experience, intangible cultural heritage knowledge will be popularized and the Taijiang historical context will be inherited.
