Chaozhou wood carving exhibition on display at the National Museum of China

More than 160 exhibits (sets) on display, the exhibition lasts for two months
"Carving and Painting the Universe - Chaozhou Wood Carving Exhibition" officially opened at the National Museum of China on July 15. The exhibition, co-sponsored by the National Museum of China, Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau, and Guangdong Provincial Museum, and co-organized by the Chaozhou Municipal People's Government, is the first time that Chaozhou wood carvings have been systematically exhibited in the National Museum. More than 160 pieces (sets) of wood carvings are exhibited and the exhibition will last for two months.Chaozhou woodcarving is one of the famous folk woodcarvings in China. Chaozhou woodcarving, Dongyang woodcarving, boxwood woodcarving and longan woodcarving are known as "China's four major woodcarvings" and were included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage lists in 2006. The exhibits in this exhibition are all fine items collected by the Chaozhou Museum, the Guangdong Museum and the National Museum of China, including the Ming Dynasty woodcarving mansion monkey, the golden lacquer carving "Blessing, Profit and Longevity" dressing table with a round belly, and the Qing Dynasty golden lacquered wood carving "Liu Jinhua presents fire robe" paper media tube, "Li Taibai Drunken Picture" niche belly, painted iron line drawing lacquer painting "Guo Ziyi's birthday party" small birthday screen, gold lacquered wood carving "Generals of the Yang Family" small shrine, "Well Side Meeting" gun battle, the golden lacquer carved crab basket corbels and the "boy playing with cranes" in the period of Republic of China and the works of some contemporary famous craftsmen.The exhibition is organized according to five parts: historical origin, artistic brilliance, appreciation of humans and gods, interest in life, wood carvings and Chaoshan culture. The exhibits are high in skill, complete themes, and rich in categories. They present the artistic characteristics of Chaozhou woodcarving, which integrates carving, lacquer art, and gilding. It represents the exquisite craftsmanship and artistic value of Chaozhou woodcarving, and reflects the unique cultural landscape formed by the Chaozhou woodcarving polytheism worship.
