Qingdao sees 8.3% rise in 2021 GDP

The gross domestic product (GDP) of the eastern coastal city of Qingdao, Shandong province rose by 8.3 percent year-on-year to 1.41 trillion yuan ($222.79 billion) in 2021, with a two-year average growth of 6 percent, local authorities said at a news conference on Jan 27.

Last year, the added value of the city's primary industry stood at 47.01 billion yuan, an increase of 6.7 percent over the previous year and an average increase of 4.6 percent over the past two years.

The added value of the secondary industry was 507.03 billion yuan, an increase of 6.9 percent over the previous year and an average increase of 4.9 percent over the past two years.

The added value of the tertiary industry reached 859.61 billion yuan, an increase of 9.2 percent over the previous year and an average increase of 6.6 percent over the past two years.

The city's industrial production is becoming more resilient amid the COVID-19 pandemic, with high-tech manufacturing expanding rapidly.

From January to November 2021, the city's industrial enterprises above designated size achieved total profits of 52.16 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 4.6 percent and a two-year average growth of 11.2 percent. The value-added of high-tech manufacturing increased by 17.1 percent year-on-year, with an average growth of 9.1 percent over the past two years.

The service sector is booming in Qingdao. From January to November 2021, the city's service enterprises above designated size achieved business revenue of 304.1 billion yuan, up 42.1 percent year-on-year, and an average growth of 24.2 percent over the past two years.

The operating revenue of the high-tech service industry above designated size increased by 28.5 percent year-on-year, with an average growth of 18 percent over the past two years.

The revenue of transport, storage and postal services increased by 60.5 percent year-on-year, contributing 74.8 percent to the growth of the service sector above designated size.

The city saw its foreign trade surge 32.4 percent year-on-year to 849.84 billion yuan in 2021, accounting for 29 percent of the province's total import and export value.
