Qingdao has recently launched related renovation projects. Following the core idea of restoring the old as old, Qingdao will restore 30 historical buildings on Zhongshan Road to their best former glory.
The complex of historical buildings on Zhongshan Road, built in the 1930s and designed by Chinese famous architects at that time, boasts different architectural styles, including classicism, modern style, Gothic bell tower and Roman orders. All of them are characterized by granite foundation, granite facing on walls, partially decorated exquisite embossments and uneven embedded stone patterns , plentiful layers of cornices as well as tessellation and enjoys extremely high artistic value as a whole. After vicissitudes, the outer facade of the buildings looks rusty and bears a lot of nail holes. Because the outer facade was partially made of Laoshan Mountain red stones that are unique in Qingdao, the construction team has to grind Laoshan Mountain red stones into powder and fill in the nail holes and got repairing well done after curing, color evening and waterproof works. In addition to repairing the outer facade, the buildings will go through a lot of extra works before restoring to the historical appearance, including skirting trimming, pediment maintenance, replacement of doors and windows, storefront signboard renovation, roof rebuilding and brightening etc. （Wang Meng）
