Qingdao in Shandong province has been selected to pilot the construction of 15-minute living circles, according to a list released by the Ministry of Commerce on Sept 2.
The MOC in May proposed the building of community business circles that are located within a 15-minute walk from the homes of residents. In the future, residents should be able to walk to convenience stores and small supermarkets within five minutes, to fast food restaurants, laundry mats, and other basic shops within eight minutes, and to big markets and maintenance centers within 15 minutes.
The MOC will work with relevant departments to help local governments promote the development of branded convenience stores and upgrade the standardization of vegetable markets to meet the basic needs of nearby residents.
A total of 30 cities were included in the list, including Dongcheng district in Beijing, Channing district in Shanghai, and Jinan and Yantai in Shandong province.
Following this proposal, the municipal commerce department will work to provide fixed-point services and door-to-door services in communities and promote online shopping among residents, according to officials.
