The general plan for building a Guangdong-Macao in-depth cooperation zone in Hengqin has greatly boosted Macao residents' confidence in the special administrative region's future. The plan, issued by the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council, was made public on Sunday.Hengqin is located in the southern part of Zhuhai in Guangdong province, just across the Macao Special Administrative Region. The total area of the cooperation zone will be about 106 square km, according to the plan. The plan defines the strategic position of the zone as a new platform to boost Macao's appropriate economic diversification, a new space that provides convenience to Macao residents' life and employment, a new model to enrich the practice of "one country, two systems", as well as a new high ground for building the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The plan sets the goal for the zone to fully demonstrate the strong vitality and strength of "one country, two systems" by 2035, when the goal of Macao's appropriate economic diversification will be basically realized. In an interview with China Central Television (CCTV), Wu Xiaoli, president of the General Union of Macao Residents Associations, said that the plan provides Macao residents with broader development space."The plan includes short-term, mid-term and long-term goals. Hengqin is three times the sizes of Macao. For Macao residents who live in a relatively small place, it provides a broader space for us to live, work, start businesses and study," said Wu.Some entrepreneurs believe that implementing this plan means that more support will be offered to young people and enterprises."Implementing the plan for building the in-depth cooperation zone will provide great support to the pharmaceutical industry in Macao, and will be a great help in many aspects such as production standards, product quality, personnel training, and production capacity," said Cai Jianhua, a senior staff member from a pharmaceutical firm based in Macao."Both my young friends and I are very excited and inspired. We felt care and support from the country. In the plan for building the in-depth cooperation zone, we also saw a series of supporting measures for Macao residents to work and start businesses in Hengqin," said Huang Jingxi, president of Macao Legal Exchange and Promotion Association.
