Recently, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism issued 15 “Major Discoveries of Ancient Post Roads in Southern Guangdong”. The Xipian ancient post road in Raoping County, Chaozhou City (Ming Dynasty) was selected.Located in the Beixiyan Mountain Scenic Area of Shangrao Town, the Xipian Ancient Post Road in Raoping County has a total length of 9 kilometers from Xipian Village to Sanxi Village, Fenglang Town, Dabu County, Meizhou, 4.5 kilometers within the boundaries of Xipian Village. The existing stone road is about 2.5 kilometers, built around the mountain, and the longest section is 365 steps. It is called "the ladder" because of its "long, dangerous, straight and odd". There are historical sites such as Xiyan Temple, Fenshui Pavilion, Boxi Spring along the ancient road, and cultural relics such as Fulou and Huafenglou in Hakka Tulou Town. The Xipian ancient post road is the only place to pass through the "two provinces and four counties" in Fujian and Guangdong. It is a postal post road, an ancient salt and grain road, and a red road. In 1927, Zhu De led the Nanchang Uprising Army through the ancient road and finally joined forces with the Autumn Harvest Uprising Army led by Mao Zedong. The ancient post roads in southern Guangdong are valuable historical and cultural resources in Guangdong Province. Since 2016, the protection and utilization of ancient post roads have continuously produced important discoveries and research results, which have become a powerful tool for the integration of cultural and tourism and rural revitalization.
