Two Chinese films hit billion-yuan box office during national holiday
BEIJING, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Two Chinese films have made 1 billion yuan (about 147 million U.S. dollars) each at domestic box office during the ongoing national holiday, movie-ticketing and film data platform Maoyan said Sunday.
As of 5:15 p.m. on Sunday, the fourth day of the eight-day National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, Chinese comedy feature "My People, My Homeland" had hit 1 billion yuan in total box office revenue since its opening on Thursday, data from Maoyan showed.
It became the first billion-yuan film among all those scheduled for release during the national holiday and the 76th in China's billion-yuan film club.
It was followed by animated film "Legend of Deification," which saw its total box office revenue reach the 1-billion-yuan mark about 15 minutes later.
"Legend of Deification" was produced by the same companies behind last year's China box office champion "Ne Zha."
